Gems From  Madagascar du Sud

Gems from  Madagascar du Sud (the south) will now be more accessible. Gilbert relocated our Madagascar operating base to Tulear (also known as Toliara).

Hello again. Here is the latest from Madagascar Gems.

As indicated above, Gilbert moved his family to Tulear over the past weekend. We expect this move to result in better access to the gems that are most requested by our customers.

Those gems... blue sapphire, blue and pink spinel, chrysoberyl, and several varieties of beryl, including emerald are always in demand.

While those gem varieties are also mined in the northern and central regions of Madagascar, cyclones and the rainy season in general have resulted in flooded mines and reduced our ability to travel in the bush.

The southern region is more arid and less prone to flooding.

Gilbert has traveled and done business for several years, so we have business relations with several miners in the region. 

Gilbert will now identify and visit even more mines and gem fields in the region. Because Gilbert is now located within 100 kilometers of several productive mining areas, we should be able have some mines send a runner to our location to deliver rough.

In this way we will be able to do business more efficiently and effectively. This will allow us to offset the considerably higher shipping costs.
