Color Shift Garnet

Color shift garnet is being introduced in our Gem Rough Special Offer section below... but first

Madagascar Gems is on the move! As we have covered in the past couple of issues, Gilbert has moved our Madagascar operating base (and his family) to Tulear, on the southwest coast.

Gilbert is exploring that region in depth now that he is convenient to the region. Previously, Gilbert visited and traded with a few mines in the region, but never had time to explore and develop extensive contacts. We now have that opportunity, and have set about doing it.

Tulear (Toliara) is the regional capital, but it is far removed from the national capitol of Antananarivo. Gilbert reports that the electric generator is old there, and they have been running it only part of each day... then it blew up last week. Gilbert had to go out and purchase a small generator. He now has it installed at his home, and his internet is functioning again.

The photo above is of the country's major means of public transportation... the bush taxi. As we establish contacts by visiting the many mines and digs in the southern gem fields, we are encouraging the miners to send their runner to us with the rough, using the bush taxi.

Of course Gilbert will continue to mount expeditions into the bush to find new digs and find the best rough... but he cannot do that using the bush taxi.

Madagascar gems are where the miners find them. That can be a very remote location, So for bush travel in the south, Gilbert often uses his motor bike. It can traverse the open country and go places a 4 x 4 cannot.

Madagascar gems are many and varied. In our new location we have established contacts to supply good spinel (pink, red, and blue), chrysoberyl, kornerupine (blue and green), and iolite.

We are working on sources for good blue sapphire, but competition from "the Asians" is fierce, and we must establish ourselves as knowledgeable and serious with the miners.

Tell us what rough you are interested in, and we will get it for you. Just ontact us by email (guarded by anti-spam solution).

Gem Rough Special Offer

Color shift garnet is a new rough that we have found in the south. This is an interesting red to purple color shift gem, and it is affordable. Clean rough of 1+ grams are available for only 20 $/G.

I will receive our July shipment (it takes a while, even by air) in just a few days. It is in the USA, and is now clearing Customs. Gilbert tells me he has included some of the color shift garnets to sell as samples to our customers.

We rarely sell onesey - twosey, but you can get a few by sending me an email. Payment will be by PayPal, or you can send me a check by snail mail.
